Michelin Announces Larger Size XRS

Michelin Introduces Larger Size XRS™ Radial-DesignedScraper Tire to the Construction Market

LAS VEGAS, NEV. – The Michelin Earthmover Group has introduced a new size of its XRS radial tire to the marketplace. The new 37.5R39 XRS tire is manufactured for large scrapers and is designed to provide them with excellent longitudinal/lateral traction and exceptional tread and sidewall cut protection. It is the only E4 radial scraper tire available in the market.
The unique tread design of the XRS tire also helps minimize vibration, which correlates to enhanced ride comfort for the operator. Because of the superior traction characteristics of the tire, it helps maximize productivity.

“The Michelin XRS radial tire is making waves in the marketplace,” said Tomas Bennett, market segment manager for Michelin North America. “Customers like the tire because of its traction and durability. The reinforced sidewall and buttressed shoulder design help provide maximum protection and resilience in tough conditions. The aggressive, non-directional, deep tread pattern helps enhance productivity. That equates to longer tire wear, longer tire life and maximum uptime. We’re proud to put the Michelin name on it”

The XRS radial is available in 37.25R35 and 37.5R39.

OTR tire shortage could hinder mining boom

OTR tire shortage could hinder mining boom "We may be looking at 10 years of growth" in the mining industry, according to Michelin officials. But a lot of that will depend on the availability of large OTR tires.

"We think we're looking at a mega-cycle (in mining activity)," says John Funke, director of sales, mining, for Michelin North America Inc.

"In the past, the cycle was six years of growth and four years of drop-off."
Soaring commodity prices are driving increased mining activity throughout the world, according to Funke.

However, current demand for large OTR tires by mines, construction companies and other end users "is 25% to 30% greater than the industry can deliver."

Last month, Michelin announced that it will invest $85 million into its OTR tire plant in Lexington, S.C., over the next five years.

"There's been reactivation of some closed mines in the U.S. and Canada, but they can't flip the switch overnight. Growth is limited by available resources, one of them being tires."

You can find hard to locate otr tires here.
